My primary research interests involve the investigation of procedural authority, serious games and relational aesthetics, with particular focus on the potential intersections between structured social play and computational systems. Related subjects include ubiquitous computing, alternate reality gaming and ruleset-based narrative construction.
Much of this investigation will involve addressing the question of how procedural authorship, when combined with an increasingly mobile, ubiquitous and interoperable communications infrastructure, can enable new forms of narrative, artistic and social engagement. These new forms include expansions and evolutions of traditional interactive storytelling and game design, as well as the development of emerging modes of collaborative networked expression and participation.
